General Description
The PowerWristor consists of a base platform with a mobile tray positioned at the front of the base and arm
supports are located at the middle to the end of the base to accommodate any size of forearm. The base has
a series of holes around the mobile tray for peg placement to attach rubber bands around for tension or for
restricting tray movement. Elastic bands or resistance cords of various strength levels can be used for providing
resistance through extension, flexion, and deviation movements. The device is designed to isolate the
forearm and will only allow movement at the wrist or fingers; no other device on the market will do this. Arm
supports hold the forearm in place on either side and at the elbow. The mobile tray accommodates a hand
grip post or a hand grip knob. There are three slides on the mobile tray for hand grip positioning. Two cam
cleats secure the resistance bands at the end of the base. Using the 3 Different "Slides" on the Mobile Tray
When the hand grip is located in the central slide, one may improve sufficiently so the mobile tray butts up
against the range pin, allowing no more movements for the wrist. If more movement of the wrist is desired in
the direction that is now blocked, the hand grip may be unscrewed from the central slide and inserted into
whichever slide provides increased excursion. While the hand grip is loose in the new slide, position the grip
for the patient to grasp, or at the dorsum of the MCP's depending on which surface pressure will be applied.
Tighten the post. Proceed with the stretching or strengthening technique of choice. Limiting Range of Motion
If limiting the movement of the wrist is indicated, a peg can be inserted into a hole in the row that runs underneath
the mobile tray (labeled motion blocking holes on set-up page). This peg would prohibit excessive
stretch on the recovering anatomical structures. A peg can be placed on both sides of the mobile tray thus
preventing excessive motion in both directions. Using the Arm Supports
There are 5 arm supports attached to the base with bolt in a sliding slot and tightened down with a locking
knob. The arm supports isolate the forearm behind the mobile tray axis point. By loosening the locking
knobs, the arm supports can be moved apart to fit the users forearm on the sides and the elbow at the end
of the base. |
